Photo Hosting

This is a test blog post for today's tutorial on the Stars and Stamps blog. I'm seeing if I can add a photo from my Flickr account to a blog post instead of uploading from my pc. To test, I'm going to use all old pic that I have sitting in my account over at Flickr...

...5min later...

Okay, that didn't work, I tried all the different links that Flickr offered me... even the one for the page with the photo on it. Hmm. Any advice or should I just open a Photobucket account? I'll close by trying one more time with a freebie clipart so there's a photo for the Inlinks...

Well, this guy worked! From a random clipart website, though. I think I just got lucky. Have a great day!

Heat Embossing as a DP

Last week's MWT is a 'lil late, but I finally got it today (and a few others). I put it off a few days because 1. it was Thanksgiving, 2. I worked all weekend, and most importantly (haha) I had no silver paper! So today I realized that if I didn't have any silver paper, I'd just have to make some. For your consideration, I give you a strip of white cardstock heat embossed with silver powder! (and a "foil" cupcake wrapper)...

Happy Birthday!
I also have a few more to share...
I heart turtles
Sentiment from Cricut cart "Beyond Birthdays" that I made a while back and has been collecting dust

Chocolate brown, dry embossed with clocks, fussy cut the cream layer with fancy new scissors

A few months ago there were some mustache freebies in the Cricut Craft Room and I couldn't resist cutting a few, even though I didn't know what I'd do with them. I also printed off some sentiments and stuck them in my sketch folder. But I could never come up with the right kind of paper to match them with (I only cut a few each of these sizes and only in black). I knew in my gut that I wanted it to be laid out as I have here, just didn't know what color(s) to use. I pulled this polka dot paper from the MME "Breeze" 6x6 pad and voila! I'm happy I waited till my gut told me it was time :)

I went with another black and white theme for a birthday card; doubling up on the scalloped circles.

Listen to Lucy, she was stunning all the way to the end.
Also used the ribbon tying technique from OWH for a nice clean knot that won't loosen. I can't find it on the website, hmmm. Pretty much what you do is lay the ribbon flat across the top, bring both ends around (or down through a punched hole like I did here) and pull the ends up through a punched hole in the center. (I also did this for the brown/green "Miss You" card up top). Have one end come out the above the ribbon that's already laying across the front of the paper, and the other come out below it, then tie them together. Here are a couple pics up close. I took them in front of some orange felt so you can see the punched holes better; they're not that visible in the final product because the ribbon covers them, and the card base will be black. Again, this can be done without pulling the ribbon through the paper and just by wrapping it around the sides of it, like I did up top.

the center is where the ribbon has been poked through to the front

Thanks for visiting and I hope your week's off to a great start!

Hello,Sketch #148

The measurements for the top strip of this sketch were missing and I didn't gauge it right, so I ended up adding another strip to make it a full A2 size. This paper is from MME, "Breeze." I love monochromatic color schemes and am beginning to really like yellow when it's paired up with black or grey.

Have a great Sunday!

Purple Gratitude

I've been making so many love/flirty cards lately I was happy to see a Thank You card challenge for this week's MWT. I used this morning's new sketch (#147) and came up with a few of these. Thank you for the thank you challenge OWH. ;)

Fussy Cuttin' and Making It Work

Has it been two weeks since my last post already? Wow, time is flying by and I can't keep up! This week's tutorial on OWH's Stars and Stamps blog is for fussy cutting - something I shy away from when ever possible. One thing I took to heart on the post was that my scissors are probably my #1 enemy when it comes to getting a good cut. So I spent my weekly craft allowance (don't worry, it's less than $10) on a new pair of scissors, going with Cutter Bee's Honey Bee pair. I have a cute little owl stamp and used it for my first try at fussy cutting. Wouldn't you know it, I think it really does begin with having a good pair of scissors. These have thin blades and are extra sharp because they're so new. So much better than the blue handled scissors I use from Staples!  I paper pieced the heart, stamped a little sentiment on it and used Sketch #146 for this card...

I also got some cool vintage stamps a week or so ago from Recollections (I think it was) but had trouble finding a sketch to fit a tape cassette image. So I started with Sketch #87 and went from there. The problem came when I saw the empty space on the bottom left that wanted to be utilized. So I played around with some ribbon and did a few of each style.

***UPDATE - the measurements for the above card are:
3 @ 2 3/8'x1 5/8"
1 @ 1 1/2"x5 1 1/4"
plus a ribbon, brad or other embellishment***

Another card I made from the vintage stamp set; Sketch #113...

Thanks for visiting and hopefully I'll get my butt in gear and post more regularly! Enjoy the weekend!

Valentine's Begins!

I did a 2-fer here for this month's ODBD challenge and today's sketch #145. I've seen tons of great cards with dry embossing being enhanced by some marker work and thought I'd give it a try...

Don't like the way the heart turned out, so I tacked on a Cricut heart candy from the Simply Charmed cart. Much better, I think. But hey, I gave it shot :) Also, a shout out to the ladies on the Scrap to Treasure FB group that sent me the papers. I'm on the lookout for this folder now. Thanks!

Recent MidWeek Throwdowns

Hi all! Wow what a crazy week we've had up here in the Northeast dealing with Hurricane Sandy! Luckily, my family and I made it through okay. Here are few pics of the limbs we lost during the storm. As luck would have it, we had just moved our cars to the side of the house about 10min before these fell into the driveway! Whew!

We lost power for about a day we hope everyone else is getting their power back soon. It's getting chilly now and I can't imagine sleeping in a house with no heat right now. Brr.

Two Wednesdays ago the MWT wanted Friendship cards. Here's mine:

And this last week's was Love/Valentine's cards - my favorite!

I'm starting to think I might need some new sentiment stamps. I seem to use the same ones over and over again. But I like them... but I feel I'm getting repetitive. Ho hum, guess I'll just have to do a little shopping ;).

BTW, I work at A.C. Moore now, and my store lost power in the storm. It was closed for 4 days. Yikes! Have a great weekend everyone! Excited for this month's ODBD challenge and a new card drive!
